Facts

Screenwriter Nancy Radin sued Darlene Hunt, creator and headwriter for Showtime's original hit series, The Big C, for copyright infringement. Radin also sued the network, Showtime Networks Inc.

Seeking damages, Radin claimed that her screenplay, Quality of Life, based on her personal experiences and submitted to the Writing Program at UCLA, was used by defendants in creating The Big C.

Result

U.S. District Court Judge John Kronstadt ruled that Radin failed to prove that defendants had access to Radin's copyrighted work and that her evidence of similarity was weak. Summary judgment was granted in defendants' favor.

Other Information

Radin has filed an appeal.
