Facts

In April 1999, defendant Gilbert Li was driving east on Clay Street in San Francisco. The defendant approached the intersection of Clay and Kearny Street at a red light. The defendant entered the intersection, striking plaintiff John Doe, a pedestrian who was lawfully crossing Clay at the crosswalk. The plaintiff fell to the street and suffered injuries. The plaintiff sued the defendant and defendant's mother, the owner of the vehicle, Mary Li, for vehicular negligence. The defendant contended that the plaintiff walked into his vehicle while crossing the street.

Injuries

The plaintiff claimed soft tissue injuries to his arm, back and knee. He also sustained a disc injury and developed erectile dysfunction. The defendant conceded there were soft tissue injuries but disputed that the erectile dysfunction was related to the accident.
