Scott Carthey sued Linda Thompson, in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Jan. 6, 2011.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff alleged that he was driving his vehicle along the SR-91 west bound exit to Mission Inn Ave. in Riverside, when defendant struck his vehicle. Plaintiff claimed he sustained injuries as a result of the accident. Plaintiff alleged that defendant was inattentive and drove too fast for the flow of traffic. Plaintiff claimed defendant was negligent in the operation of her vehicle.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The U.S. issued a certification stating that defendant was acting within the scope of her federal employment at the time of the collision. In its answer, the U.S. government denied plaintiff's allegations, and asserted various affirmative defenses.
Injuries
Carthey claimed he suffered from a rare and severe blood disorder called "hemophilia-A," and that he sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
Result
The parties reached a $60,000 settlement.
