Enfish LLC filed an infringement lawsuit against Microsoft Corp., Fiserv Inc., Intuit Inc., Sage Software Inc., and Jack Henry & Associates Inc.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff alleged that it owned rights to two patents. The patents allegedly concerned information management and database systems. Plaintiff alleged that its patents improved upon prior art. Plaintiff alleged that it developed software, the Enfish Tracker Pro, based on its Dex Engine technology. The software, which tracked and sorted email, text files, and other electronic data, won awards and had been praised by critics. Plaintiff accused defendants of infringing on its patents by using infringing systems and methods. Plaintiff also alleged that defendants' software, including, among others, the Microsoft.NET Framework, infringed on its patents.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants argued that the asserted claims under the disputed patents were unpatentable, and moved for summary judgment for invalidity.
Result
The court concluded that Enfish's asserted claims were unpatentable, and granted defendants' summary judgment motion.
