Facts

On January 7, 1993, Plaintiff Nhac Quang Chung, a 45-year-old truck driver for Plaintiff/Cross-defendant Sincere Orient Foods, was on State Route 152-E1 and lost control of his vehicle, crashed into the mountainside, flipped over on its side, and blocked the number 2 lane of traffic. At the time Mr. Chung had been driving for 30 hours with 2 hours of sleep. Cross-complainant Panoussis Trucking (a 4-semi driven by C. Wallace) came after and was unable to stop. He drove across the center median, across the westbound lanes, and 250 feet down a canyon. Defendant/Cross-complainant High Desert Carriage House (a car carrier carrying 7 vehicles) driven by Defendant Donald Armes, came after, was unable to stop, flipped over, and slid into the Plaintiff. Chung sued High Desert Carriage house. High Desert Cross-complained against Sincere Orient for $40,000. Panoussis Cross-complained against Sincere Orient and High Desert for $180,000 (Defense verdict).
