Plaintiff Michael Mavroudis, a 60-year-old Navy Force Master Chief and Director of Navy Plant Equipment Office in Oakland, California, retired in December of 1993. Within 2 months of his retirement, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, allegedly caused by exposure to asbestos during the overhaul of the naval vessels during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
