This case involves an incident that took place on Valentine's Day in 1992. Plaintiff Rebecca Grismore slipped and fell in a fuel spill in the parking lot adjacent to her employer, a flower shop. The spill came from a defective Ryder refrigeration unit, attached to a trailer that was used to store flowers. Defendant Steven Debates was an independent mechanic who was called to the scene to clean up the spill and repair the leak. Ryder settled out for undisclosed figures, prior to trial.
