In 1994, plaintiff Los Angeles County Flood Control District acquired approximately 2.54 acres for the construction of a debris basin in the Sunland/Tujunga area. Defendant property owner Ed Nash, along with adjoining property owners Ralph Krausen, Kenneth Gottlieb, Nancy Leite and Joan Moyer, jointly asserted a claim for severance damages at trial alleging damages in the amount of $2.6 million. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendants based on eminent domain theories of recovery.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiff made an oral offer for $300,000 for severance damages. The defendants made a demand of $1.5 million.

At trial, defendants Ed Nash and Ralph Krausen jointly claimed $2.6 million in severance damages.
Other Information
The verdict was reached approximately three years and four months after the case was filed. A settlement conference was held on Oct. 29, 1997, before Judge Boland. It did not resolve the matter.
