On Nov. 15, 1993, plaintiff Dr. Sanford King, a 50-year-old maxillofacial surgeon, underwent surgery, to resect an irritable and obstructed bowel. The plaintiff claimed that at the time he awoke from anesthesia, he had lost his voice and had paralyzed vocal chords. The plaintiff alleged that defendant anesthesiologist improperly intubated him and defendant surgeon leaned on his arm during surgery. The plaintiff brought this medical malpractice action against the defendants based on the theory of res ipsa loquitur.
