On Sep. 8, 2002, the claimant, a restaurant manager, was driving west on Railroad Canyon Road in Canyon Lake at about 40 mph. A thief, who had just stolen a pickup truck, was driving east on the same rod and was being pursued by the police. The thief jumped the center divider at about 50 mph and hit the claimant head on. The claimant's car was a total loss at about $17,500.
