Facts

On December 30, 1991, Plaintiff, a 23-year-old unemployed woman underwent a therapeutic abortion by Defendant obstetrician, because of an encephalic fetus. During the procedure, Defendant perforated Plaintiff's uterus and lacerated her sigmoid colon. As a result, Plaintiff was required to undergo a bowel resection and temporary colostomy. The colostomy was taken down and the bowel reattached, 5 weeks later.
