Facts

The plaintiff was a passenger in a vehicle driven by an uninsured friend on the interchange between the 405 north and the 10 west. As the lanes merged, the plaintiff vehicle came into contact with a van transporting the defendant university's female basketball team. The collision caused the driver of the plaintiff's vehicle to lose control, striking the center divider and flipping the car at least once.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff made a C.C.P. Section 998 demand of $525,000. Before it expired, the defense asked for an extension of the terms of the demand and the case settled for $350,000 before expert witnesses depositions were taken.

Other Information

The case was mediated by Joe Hilberman, but the mediation was too early in the case to be successful. A second mediation was scheduled with Joe Hilberman, but the case settled between the parties before the second mediation.
