Facts

The plaintiff was employed by MTA and its predecessor agency, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission from April 30, 1990, until his termination on Dec. 31, 1996. At MTA, the plaintiff held the position of treasurer. As a relocation incentive when plaintiff was first hired in 1990, the plaintiff was given $250,000 toward the purchase of his personal residence in California with the requirement that he sign a Shared Equity Agreement. The terms of the Shared Equity Agreement included a requirement that plaintiff keep current all appropriate taxes and liens on the property. The plaintiff was terminated purportedly for failing to pay taxes or liens on the property. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on race discrimination, wrongful termination in violation of fundamental public policy, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Other Information

The defendant's motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict and for new trial were denied on Nov. 18, 1999. The verdict was reached approximately one year and nine months after the case was filed.
