Facts
Plaintiff Gazi Khan, age 47, had a history of insulin dependent diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, high cholesterol and left bundle branch block. In early 1995, he reported vague left arm discomfort. He was given a stress echocardiogram by defendant physician with a negative result. Two months later, plaintiff developed chest pains diagnosed as stable exertional angina. Defendant cardiologist risk-stratified plaintiff as low risk for imminent heart attack and treated with medical therapy. Three months later, on Aug. 19, 1995, plaintiff suffered a cardiac event and underwent emergency angiography/angioplasty which revealed severe triple vessel disease. Two weeks later, he underwent a quadruple bypass surgery. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on a negligence theory of recovery.
Injuries
Plaintiff claimed 20 percent additional damage to his heart muscle because of cardiac event.
