In May 1996, the plaintiff's wife (now ex-wife) sought out defendant, a psychotherapist, based on the recommendation of a friend. The defendant counseled the plaintiff's ex-wife on a weekly basis, and she advised her then-husband that she felt he would also benefit from sessions with the defendant. On Aug. 6, 1996, the plaintiff attended the first of six counseling sessions with the defendant. The plaintiff becamse suspicious the defendant and his wife were having an affair. The defendant denied any improper relations with the plaintiff's wife. In September, the plaintiff terminated therapy with the defendant. Shortly thereafter, in September, the plaintiff's wife terminated her therapy with the defendant, and she also initiated her marital separation from the plaintiff. Per plaintiff, the plaintiff's wife initiated a personal relationship with the defendant in November. The plainitff brought this action against the defendant based on alienation of affection.
