Facts
On the evening of March 31, 2011, Jane Doe sustained burns to 16 percent of her body on her hands, face, neck and legs, when she was injured by a product that exploded while she was at a friend's house.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs contended that the homeowner was negligent and failed to follow the product instructions and the products involved were inherently defective.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The homeowner defendant blamed the product defendants and the product defendants blamed the homeowner for the explosion and each contested the severity of plaintiffs' injuries.
Result
The total settlement of $4,115,000 reflects payments of $1.7 million from the homeowner defendants and just over $2.4 million from multiple product defendants in the chain of commerce.
