Facts
The plaintiff, Mr. Doe experienced sporadic erectile dysfunction difficulties associated with diabetes. The defendants, Dr. Alfred Sidhom and Dr. B. Robert Bamshad, performed a series of penile injections. The last injection yielded a dorsal curvature toward the left upon erection. The injections did not have the desired effect and Mr. Doe elected to have penile prosthesis surgery. The doctors did not tell Mr. Doe that they were also going to correct the curvature during the surgery. After placing and inflating the penile prosthesis, the doctors decided to correct the curvature. While doing so, the neurovascular bundle providing blood supply to the tip of the penis was damaged. The plaintiff required partial amputation due to the development of gangrene.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiffs demanded $225,000 before arbitration. The defendants did not make an offer.
Damages
Mr. and Mrs. Doe each claimed $250,000 in general damages. Mr. Doe also claimed $90,000 in future medical care for penile reconstruction.
Injuries
Partial penectomy.
