Facts
According to defendant County of Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the plaintiff, Angelo Trotter, ran a stop
sign. After a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department vehicle's sirens indicated for him to stop, he pulled over and
stopped his car. According to the defendant, the plaintiff refused to follow the officersÆ instructions and became
belligerent. As a result, he was ordered out of his car and handcuffed. The officers searched the glove box,
which had a fully loaded 40 caliber semi-automatic gun, which belonged to the plaintiffÆs wife, a CHP officer.
A criminal check confirmed that he had a prior for a concealed weapons charge.
According to the plaintiff, he did not commit any traffic violations and alleged that the stop was pretextual. He
followed the officersÆ instructions and was handcuffed and placed in the back of the police car before any
search was conducted.
