Facts

In August 2003, plaintiff Scott Cassinelli, a 43-year-old occupational therapist, was driving in the fast lane on
southbound Interstate 5 in Stockton. Defendant Jacqueline Douglas was driving in the slow lane on
southbound I-5. The defendant attempted to change lanes, but before completing the move, she suddenly
swerved back into the slow lane. She lost control of her car and fishtailed back into the fast lane, colliding into
the plaintiff's truck. The plaintiff's truck flipped onto its side and went off the right shoulder and down an
embankment.

Injuries

The plaintiff suffered a spinal cord contusion, which caused neurological problems on the right side of his body. The plaintiff claimed trouble walking and gripping objects, and the injuries are considered permanent.

Result

The parties settled for $250,000.
