In 1985, the defendant, Hawthorne Savings and Loan, hired the plaintiff Jacqueline Palmquist, a 53-year-old woman, when it acquired the branch of Santa Barbara Savings and Loan where the plaintiff was employed. In June of 1987, Hawthorne promoted Palmquist to the position of vice president/senior loan administrator. Palmquist was subsequently demoted ________ (illegible fax) and voluntarily resigned on January 4, 1993. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on violation of public policy, breach of contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, intentional violation of statute (discrimination), intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligenct infliction of emotional distress theories of recovery.
