On Feb. 13, 1997, the plaintiff was eastbound on the 101 Freeway near Haskell Ave. when traffic stopped suddenly. The plaintiff applied his brakes and stopped abruptly, but did not hit the car in front of him. The defendant then rear-ended the plaintiff and pushed him into the car in front of him.
