Facts

Plaintiff Gloria Stanford, an African-American female over age 60, worked at El Arca as executive director for
approximately five years. In early 1998, the board of directors began receiving complaints from employees
regarding a hostile work environment created by the plaintiffÆs verbally abusive conduct and increasingly
erratic behavior.
In response, the board commenced an investigation that included interviews with numerous employees, the
majority of whom confirmed the allegations of misconduct by plaintiff. Based on the results of the
investigation, the board voted to remove the plaintiff.
