Facts
Alma Del Bosque of San Antonio suffered injuries as a result of a 2008 cable car derailment on the Powell-Mason line in San Francisco. The cable car got stuck at Mason and Washington streets; the operators got out to push the car, but were unable to reboard causing the cable car to careen off the rails around a curve, injuring a number of passengers.
She sued the Municipal Transportation Agency after she was thrown from the cable car.
Specials in Evidence
Del Bosque incurred nearly half a million dollars in medical expenses, and will require more than $1 million in future care.
Injuries
Del Bosque suffered a closed head injury, broken neck, and her leg was shattered just above the knee that will have lasting effects throughout her life. The injury also caused her to become bedridden for months, losing her home and relocating to another city for orthopedic surgical care and follow-up. Although she can now ambulate, her life will never be the same.
