Facts

In February 2003, plaintiff Angela Jones, age 18, was crossing an intersection in Los Angeles when she was hit by a recycling truck. Paramedics and police were called while the plaintiff remained trapped under the truck.

Injuries

The plaintiff sustained a right femur fracture and large laceration of the right calf. She had intermediary rod fixation surgery which included the laceration repair. The plaintiff, who was obese, also made claims of residual back and knee pain. She planned to request $525,000 in past and future pain and suffering, and past and future medical costs.

Result

The parties reached a mediated settlement for $299,000 before R.A. Carrington (neutral). The plaintiff was reimbursed the $1,500 cost of the mediator's fees.
