On Oct. 8, 1995, plaintiff, 16 years old at the time of the incident, was driving eastbound on Badillo Street in the No. 1 lane approaching Lark Ellen Avenue in West Covina. The plaintiff entered the intersection on green light. The defendant driving westbound on Badillo Street turned left in front of the plaintiff. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on negligence.

The plaintiff made a settlement demand for $85,000. The defendant made an offer of $80,000 which was accepted.

The settlement was reached approximately 11 months after the case was filed. A mediation was held on Aug. 26, 1998, before the Hon. Arleigh M. Woods of ADR, resulting in the reported settlement. Prior to mediation, the plaintiff's settlement demand was $350,000. At mediation, the plaintiff initially demanded $125,000, as compared to the defendant's offer of $60,000. After two hours of negotiations, the action was compromised for $85,000.
