Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Apple claimed ownership over various patents and contended that Samsung's products, including its Galaxy phones, infringed on those patents. Some of those patents concerned using gestures to unlock a device, methods for word recommendations, phone management, and others.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Samsung denied Apple's allegations, and asserted various affirmative defenses. It also filed a patent claim against Apple, contending that Apple's iPhone and iPod touch products infringed on Samsung's patents. Additionally, Samsung filed claims for non-infringement and invalidity.
Result
The jury rendered a verdict in favor of Apple in its claim against Samsung and awarded the tech giant $119,625,000 in damages. Concerning Samsung's patent claims asserted against Apple, the jury rendered a verdict in favor of Samsung and awarded the company $158,400 in total damages.
