Nicolas Tomas filed a complaint for injunctive and declaratory relief against Soraya Coley, Byron Howlett, La'Keisha Gilford-Beard, and Renee Foisy, in connection with Tomas' handing out of leaflets.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff was a student at Cal Poly Pomona who sued the college after he was prevented from handing out leaflets promoting a vegan diet. Plaintiff claimed that such conduct violated his constitutional right to free speech and petitioning activities.

Result

The University agreed to revise its policies with respect to leafletting and paid Tomas $35,000 in damages and fees.
