On June 12, 2001, the plaintiff Suzanne Greenberg, 30, was driving her 1998 Saab on Union Street at its intersection with Steiner Street in San Francisco, when she came to a stop sign. She was then rear-ended by a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta driven by the 16-year-old defendant, Claire Dantine.
