Facts

On Dec. 13, 1993, the plaintiff was injured when a stair on which she was walking collapsed. This was the only staircase that existed for ingress and egress to plaintiffs apartment on the second floor. As plaintiff descended the stairs, the second stair from the top collapsed beneath her feet, causing her to fall between the remaining stairs straight down approximately 15 feet and landing on the ground. The plaintiff hit the ground first with her mid back, then her head, and then the rest of her body.
