Facts
Scott Eveland was a 17-year-old high school linebacker for Mission Hills High School. He complained to a student trainer that he had been suffering from headaches during the week leading up to the game. He went to the team's athletic trainer, Doe, on the day of the game and asked to sit out the first quarter because his headache was so bad he could not even focus his eyes. Doe then went to the coach, Roe, who yelled at Doe. Eveland later collapsed on the sideline during a game due to bleeding inside his brain, causing extensive damage. Eveland sued San Marcos Unified School District for the debilitating brain injury he suffered.
Injuries
Eveland started the game and collapsed. He underwent surgery later that night, which saved his life. However, he suffered from a debilitating brain injury and he was left severely disabled requiring constant care.
Result
Eveland will receive $4.375 in settlement of the matter. He previously settled his lawsuit against a helmet manufacturer for $500,000.
