Facts

A purported class action was filed against Chevron Corp. for allegedly violating the Song-Beverly Act for collecting customers' ZIP codes at the pump.

Result

Summary judgment was granted in Chevron's favor. Judge John Wiley Jr. ruled that Chevron's practice of collecting ZIP codes to prevent fraud did not violate the Act, which was meant to protect consumers' private information.
