Facts
The case resulted from an automobile accident that occurred on March 14, 2000 at the
intersection of Seaward and Ocean Avenues in Ventura. The plaintiff, Shannon Eckberg was
southbound in her 1992 Honda Civic. The plaintiff was stopped in traffic behind other vehicles.
The defendant was also southbound on Seaward driving a 1998 Toyota 4-door Sedan when she
failed to stop and collided with the plaintiff, forcing the plaintiff to then lurch forward and collide
with the vehicle ahead of her.
Settlement Discussions
Prior to trial, the plaintiff offered to settle for $10,000 and the defendant offered $7,500. The plaintiff also, prior to trial, served a C.C.P. Section 998 offer to compromise for $15,000 (policy limits).
