Facts

In August 1996, the plaintiff, a 64-year-old female, was hired by the defendant on a one-year contract to work as
a metallurgical engineer in the Space Station Program. After five months of employment, she was terminated
in January 1997. The plaintiff thereafter applied for various permanent engineering positions at the defendant
Boeing, but was not hired.

Damages

The plaintiff claimed she suffered economic damages of $1.4 million and she sought both general and punitive damages. The plaintiff submitted a demand of $1 million; the defendant offered $10,000.
