Facts

On May 3, 2002, a Toyota Avalon driven by Linda Thurlow rear-ended the Toyota Solara driven by Breshkai Zarifi, 42, and containing her 12-year-old son, Jalal Sarai, while Zarifi was stopped, waiting for children to cross the road. Zarifi and Sarai sued Thurlow, alleging vehicular negligence. Thurlow denied that she was negligent, claiming that she acted reasonably under the circumstances. Thurlow also contended that the plaintiffs' medical bills were excessive.
