Facts

On Aug. 2, 1998, the defendant rear-ended the plaintiff, a bus driver, allegedly because the defendant was
following too closely, in violation of Vehicle Code Section 21703. The defendant allegedly was traveling at a
speed in excess of that which was safe in violation of Vehicle Code Section 22350 and was inattentive.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff demanded $34,000, which she reduced at mediation to $3,000. At a prior arbitration before Jack Weichman, the arbitrator awarded the plaintiff-in-intervention $7,000 against the defendant. The defendant requested a trial de novo.

Injuries

The plaintiff allegedly sustained herniated discs and neck, shoulder and back injuries.
