Plaintiff Maria Echiverri-Beckham (Beckham) was driving on Harrison Street at the intersection of Sixth Street in San Francisco when she was struck by defendant Paul Cianfichi's vehicle, which was traveling eastbound on Sixth Street.
Beckham filed suit against Cianfichi, alleging motor vehicle negligence.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Beckham claimed she had a green light and was halfway into the intersection when Cianfichi ran a red light, causing the collision. She claimed Cianfichi failed to yield the right of way.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Cianfichi contended that he was stopped at the intersection, only proceeding when the light turned green, and that Beckham ran the red light.
Damages
Beckham sought damages for medical expenses of $5,196, as well as pain and suffering and property damages. She also sought loss of income damages for $10,000 to $20,000.
Injuries
Beckham claimed she suffered back, neck, shoulder, elbow and knee injuries, as well as bruises to her leg.
Result
The jury rendered a verdict for the defense.
