It was 9:30 on a recent fall evening when attorneys defending a film company in a production investment dispute were making their way through a parking garage in Santa Monica, at the end of a long mediation session they assumed had ended in a stalemate.
"We thought mediation was over," said Ryan Lapidus, a partner at Lapidus & Lapidus. "It was late and we thought we were done."
