The maple syrup industry will take steps to remove lead from its syrup in a settlement with an environmental group finalized Wednesday in Humboldt County Superior Court.
The Eureka-based Mateel Environmental Justice Foundation sued 10 maple syrup producers under the state's toxics warning law, Proposition 65, alleging they failed to warn consumers that the syrup contains unsafe levels of lead.
