Lawyers In Franchise Suit Provide Study In Contrasts
Like everyone else in Hollywood, this columnist has been watching Intertainment Licensing GmbH v. Franchise Pictures with rabid interest. Filed last Dec. 21 in a Los Angeles federal court, Intertainment, the European rights broker for 25 Franchise films, claims that Franchise defrauded it out of at least $75 million by pumping up the budgets on such films as "The Whole Nine Yards" and "Battlefield Earth." (Intertainment was obligated to pay up to 47 percent of the budgets for these films.)
