North Korean refugees attend LA Lakers game

Lawyers from O'Melveny & Myers LLP hosted eight North Korean refugee students for a weeklong trip to California to experience U.S. culture. Among other activities, the students attended a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game and served as the official "High Five Squad" that welcomed the players to the court. O'Melveny hosted the students from the Hangyeore school in South Korea for the second year in a row as part of the firm's efforts to give back to the local community after opening an office in Seoul in November 2012. The program is also meaningful to the firm, a spokeswoman said, because former U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher, who served as the firm's chairman, was involved extensively with North Korean issues, particularly those involving security and human rights. — Ben Adlin
