Gun panel convenes at Munger
Three legal experts discussed U.S. gun law since the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting at a recent Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence panel, hosted Jan. 9 by Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in Los Angeles. The panel, titled "The Newtown Reality: The Fight Over the Second Amendment and Smart Gun Laws," featured UC Irvine School of Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence Executive Director Robyn Thomas. The speakers touched on current gun law debates at the state and local levels, including efforts to prevent gun violence in California, Colorado and Texas. They also spoke about political issues surrounding gun laws and about crafting gun regulations under the Second Amendment. The San-Francisco based Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence is a nonprofit that supports gun violence prevention and the promotion of "smart" gun laws. It was formed after a 1993 assault weapon attack at a San Francisco law firm that killed eight people and wounded six. — Kylie Reynolds
