9th Circuit judge, students recognized at Mexican-American bar gala
The Mexican American Bar Foundation held its annual Scholarship and Awards Gala on June 8 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. This year's honorees included 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson, who was awarded the group's Lifetime Achievement Award. Pregerson also celebrated his 90th birthday and 45th year on the bench at the gala. Over 30 law school students of Latino heritage were awarded scholarships to help them pursue their legal careers and diversify the legal industry. Other honorees included Martha Saucedo, executive vice president of Anschutz Entertainment Group Inc., who was presented with the Professional Achievement Award; Ruiz Foods Inc., makers of foods bearing the El Monterrey label, which won the Latino Entrepreneur Award; and Guggenheim Partners LLC, which received the organization's Community Service Award. — Connie Lopez
