Women legal organization celebrates 20 years
On March 21, the Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance held its first instillation dinner and celebrated 20 years of supporting women in the legal profession at Tai Pan Restaurant in Los Angeles. The group honored retired Justice Kathryn Doi Todd, the nation's first Asian Pacific American woman judge, along with Judge Fumiko Wasserman, for their trailblazing contributions to profession and community. At the ceremony, the organization's officers and board were sworn in by Judge Holly Fujie who also gave the keynote address. "We owe a tremendous debt to these visionary women who fought discrimination, struggled against exclusion and broke through glass ceilings in order to provide entryways and pathways for other women of color to rise up in this profession." said Los Angeles Superior Court Referee Cynthia Loo. "They are the role models, mentors and icons upon whose shoulders we stand today."
