San Francisco criminal defense lawyers celebrated
Judges, attorneys and city officials gathered Tuesday to celebrate a group of defense lawyers who represent indigent defendants in San Francisco. The San Francisco public defender's office and the Bar Association of San Francisco held the event in honor of the 50th anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright. Among the officials present were San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon. The Gideon Awards were handed out to two members of the city's public defender's office, Rebecca Young and Sarah Wilner, along with two members of the city's conflict panel, Tony Tamburello and Mark Goldrosen. Psychiatrist Roland Levy also received a Gideon Award for the years he spent as an expert witness. — Hamed Aleaziz
