Boyle Heights students hold mock trial in LA
Students from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights acted as attorneys in mock trials held at Reed Smith LLP on Wednesday. Around 60 Roosevelt students interested in legal careers took part in the workshops designed to give them a taste of practicing law. Reed Smith and Anthem Blue Cross legal staff advised the students as they prepared arguments and took depositions for cases ranging from employment disputes to false advertising claims. Following the workshops, students learned about the different jobs within law firms, such as paralegal and marketing positions, at a legal industry career fair. The event was based on Street Law Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based organization that teaches students law through hands-on programs. — Kylie Reynolds
