Insurance coverage for attorney fees awards does exist
Over the last 20 years, California courts have reached conflicting decisions as to whether an insurer must pay for attorney fees awarded against its insured in a lawsuit.

O ver the last 20 years, California courts have reached conflicting decisions as to whether an insurer must pay for attorney fees awarded against its insured in a lawsuit. Most of these decisions arose in the context of commercial general liability (CGL) policies. CGL policies typically cover awards of damages against an insured and also obligate an insurer to make certain "supplementary payments," including costs taxed against the insured.
