Agency head speaks about gender, housing discrimination
Phyllis W. Cheng, director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, discussed current gender and housing discrimination issues during a Nov. 14 talk at USC. Cheng, who has led the country's largest state civil rights agency for more than five years, touched on litigation and alternative dispute resolution claims stemming from such discrimination. Cheng is a co-founder of the Fair Housing and Public Accomodations Subsection of the State Bar's Real Property Law Section. For her public service work, the State Bar named Cheng the 2012 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year. The discussion drew USC faculty, staff and students, including those at the USC Marshall School of Business and USC Price School of Public Policy. Cheng received her doctorate from USC in 1987. — Kylie Reynolds
