East Bay law center celebrates 25 years

The East Bay Community Law Center celebrated its 25th anniversary Nov. 12 with a gala at Yoshi's jazz club in Oakland. Over the years the center has grown from three to more than 30 staff members, who are focused on providing legal services and policy advocacy to and on behalf of low-income communities in the east San Francisco Bay Area. The organization also provides hands-on clinical education to law students committed to ending poverty. The proceeds from the gala went to the center's Fund For the Future, which will create post-graduate in-house legal fellowships and mobile client services. The event honored Ed Barnes, an EBCLC founding attorney; longtime EBCLC supporter Elizabeth Cabraser, a partner at Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein LLP; the student-run Berkeley Law Foundation; and the Morrison & Foerster firm and foundation and their recently retired pro bono partner Kathi Pugh, an EBCLC founder. — Jill Patton
