Sex offender registry overhaul passes key legislative test
A bill to overhaul California’s 70-year-old sex offender registry program has come back from the dead and passed a major committee test.
SACRAMENTO — A bill to overhaul California’s 70-year-old sex offender registry program has come back from the dead and passed a major committee test.
SB 384 would replace the current registry with a three-tiered system. It would allow many convicts to petition a court to be taken off of the registry either 10 or 20 years after they are released from custody, depending on their crime and risk of reoffending.
