Whistleblower protections more robust after ruling

For whistleblowers who file under state law, the protection and reward they are entitled to is more robust today because of a recent decision in Virginia.

The federal government, 32 states (including California), the District of Columbia, and six municipalities have false claims statutes. These laws allow and encourage private plaintiffs, known as a "relators," to file lawsuits on behalf of the local, state or federal government when they are aware of a non-public fraud being perpetrated against the government.
